MCP Server for ETS

VK Systems Oy

Bring your ETS project
into the conversation.

A natural-language workspace for KNX professionals. Connect your AI assistant to the project you already have open in ETS.

Your project. More possibilities.

Let computer drag objects for you.

MCP server for ETS. This app makes it possible to connect coding agents to ETS so they can add devices, modify parameters, edit and link group addresses and, when enabled, do bus operations. DCAs and plug-ins can't be accessed, but otherwise almost anything you could do from ETS UI to the current project is accessible to the agent. Also contains a built-in chat window you can use with your own API key to do agentic coding from directly within ETS. Tested most heavily with OpenCode, but works with any agent supporting MCP protocol.

Adding multiple devices according to documentation, tedious refactors and pretty much any other repetitive work become natural language prompts for the agent, freeing you to work on other tasks while the agent does most of everything that specific instructions can be written for. You can't work completely headless, because ETS doesn't allow an app to import or open a project, and some flows, like first download of a device, are controlled by ETS and show the familiar dialogs to the user. So you run a coding agent on your laptop, with filesystem access to read project specifications and have the project open in ETS with this app for the agent to connect to.

Always have a backup, but ETS undo history covers agent operations and bus access needs to be opted-in from UI, so if you don't quite trust your agent you can keep it off and trigger downloads manually.

If you hope to vibe-code KNX with this tool without knowledge of KNX programming, that might work, but with current models I wouldn't bet on it and support explicitly doesn't cover teaching KNX programming.

If, on the other hand, you know KNX well and you hope to end the horrible frustration of dragging objects in ETS, when you see how you could build at agent speed like you're used to elsewhere…this is the tool. I built this exactly because I felt the pain.

Built around the way you work

One project connection. Your choice of assistant.

01 / Understand

Find the context.

Explore topology, device parameters and group-address relationships. Ask focused questions grounded in your open project.

02 / Work

Move work forward.

Make supported project edits and use bus diagnostics or device operations when needed. Review changes and keep your usual project backups.

03 / Choose

Bring your own AI.

Use built-in Chat or an MCP-compatible agent with a cloud or local model. Tested most heavily with OpenCode; choose the provider and data handling that fit your work.

Get started

From install
to first question.

Acquire and license the ETS App through myKNX ETS Apps. Separately, download and install this Windows x64 companion; it is self-contained and needs no separate .NET installation. ETS and ETS App licences are required.

Download
  1. Install the ETS App

Check myKNX for MCP Server for ETS availability and licensing, then install it in ETS. App acquisition and licensing are separate from the Windows companion.

  2. Install the Windows companion

Download and run the MSI. It installs the graphical dashboard and server.

  3. Launch MCP Server

Open MCP Server from the Start menu, or double-click its executable. The dashboard starts or attaches to the broker automatically.

  4. Connect your project and start talking

Open your project in ETS and open its MCP Server panel. Check that the dashboard shows the project connected. For built-in Chat, enter your provider URL, API key and model. For an external HTTP client, configure the endpoint and broker key.

Good to know

A few practical details.

Does the server need an open ETS project?

The server can run without an open ETS project. Project tools require a project open in ETS with its MCP Server panel connected; the server does not start ETS or open projects for you.

What do the permission switches control?

Bus access, key-material access and file access are separate gates, off by default. Enable only the access your workflow needs.

Where does my project data go?

The broker is local by default. Prompts, tool results and project data can be sent to your chosen AI provider. External MCP clients have their own data-handling policies. Review your provider and client settings before working with confidential projects. ETS/App licensing and any client or provider charges are separate.

Does closing the dashboard stop the server?

Closing the window hides it in the system tray; Exit stops the dashboard’s own broker but detaches from an external broker. Stop can also stop a compatible external broker running under the same Windows account. Force requires explicit confirmation, and stopping does not roll back project changes or physical operations.
